My guest today is my friend Kevin Perlmutter founder of Limbic Brand Evolution. We met for the first time in May 2017 when I was in NYC conducting my in-store music research. I visited him at the Man Made Music office where he was working as the Chief Strategist & Chief Innovation Officer.

Today, he has jumped in to the world of entrepreneurship and focuses on the science of emotions. He is the Chief Strategist & Founder Of Limbic Brand Evolution. Before that he has passionately and successfully, for over 20+ years been helping large, small and nonprofit brands evolve. He started his career in the advertising industry where he stayed for 16 years. After that he moved on to work for Interbrand as a Senior Director of Strategy. There he leads strategy brand revolution and identity evolution. He launched a successful customer experience practice, long before it became a hype.

In this episode, Kevin and I are going to discuss the ins and outs of the science of emotions  “How to find your company’s limbic sparks to build better emotional connections with your customers?”. We both have the passion for discovering what triggers the brain.

  • Previous Chief Strategies and Chief Innovation Officer of Man Made Music and today he is the Chief Strategist and the Founder of Limbic Brand Evolution
  • Grew up in New Jersey, USA.
  • As a person he has always been incredibly curious. He has always been the person who took things apart, and tried to figure out how they worked. He is also all about evolution, finding things that are more challenging, , and seeing where it goes and sort of being on the edge of a frontier.
  • The two brand’s that stuck in his memory since childhood are; You Bet Chocolate Syrup that reminds him of his grandparents and Nike which was the brand of his first running shoes. 
  • At Man Made Music he learned a lot about the power of emotion, and became more disciplined in the idea that you can create strategy through the lens of how you want people to feel.
  •  Created a research capability called Sonic Pulse with Sentient Decision Science.
  • The sound of rattling, home security system alert sounds and the sound of microwave makes him crazy. While, the sound of running in Central New Jersey, power tools and the sound of a Porsche is sounds he really loves. 
  • He states that most brand leaders don’t recognize the power of emotions.
  • He named his company Limbic Brand Evolution because limbic is all about the power of emotion and, and the emotional instincts that cause people to act and behave in certain ways. And then he paired that with brand evolution, because his personal brand, and the way he helps his clients is through evolution.
  • Kevin helps his clients turn emotional insights into a competitive advantage. He helps them understand what it is about the people they want to reach and what they need to know to create stronger connections..
